One of my new students happens to be my Sister who is taking Skype beginner guitar lessons from me. She is very funky and likes to sing and seems to be catching onto the guitar quickly. I hope she does not read this or her ego will explode. Anyway, in her beginner guitar lessons I am making her read music out of Hal Leonards Guitar Method 1 and in the amount of time I have been teaching I have never had anyone call Quarter Notes “Tadpole Looking Things”….I cracked up. We have also picked “Groove Is In The Heart” by Deee Lite and “My Girl” by The Temptations. I am showing her the fun songs in tablature as I always do with students.
It’s hard at first for beginning students to understand the difference between Standard Notation (Method Book Note Reading) and tablature, which is a system of numbers not notes. Once that learning curve is overcome the student usually takes off. On a interesting note a lot of students as young as 7 are very comfortable with learning in front of a computer. I have great success with the younger kids and it must have something to do with their spending lots of time playing the portable video game consoles. One of my younger students said the lessons were like “A Live Video Game”. Teaching online is very rewarding for me and my students! By making lessons so easy, convenient and comfortable I have noticed my online students are advancing faster than my in-person lessons. Please don’t hesitate to contact me to schedule your free lesson. Skype beginner guitar lessons are for students from 7 to 70 and a great gift idea!
